Legion Of The Damned: Descent into chaos
14/03/11 || revenant
Here’s some free advice for all those struggling bands out there who wish to be signed to a label such as Massacre Records. It’s pretty simple really: be predictable. You know all that crap people tell you about being “original” and “creative”? It’s all bullshit. You don’t need that, you just need to churn out the same crap, song after song, album after album. It’s safe and it works.
Got only two or three riffs written? Hey, no sweat, just intersperse it with a whole bunch of chugging with double kick mayhem. Tempo changes? You don’t need them, play the whole album at one pace. The fans will lap it up and swoon at how brutal you are.
I know, you think this would all come together to make a bland album. Well maybe so, but don’t worry, because you are predictable and safe, even the critics will lap it up. That’s right, they will gargle your cum and tell you it’s delicious as French wine and leaves your breath smelling minty fresh.
I see you are looking at the screen cynically. It works, trust me. Legion of the Damned are testament to it. Here they are with album number five (excluding their years as Occult), ripping out the same old thrash schtick they always have, with the only real discernable difference being the production. It’s as bland as modern thrash can be, with the same tempo and speedy chugging on every track. Modern thrash lacks creativity at the best of times, but surely these guys are taking the piss.
There isn’t a lot more I want to say on this album. I know it’s getting a lot of positive reviews out there on the internet. I’ve got Google, I’ve seen them. But I don’t buy it, and neither should they. There’s always those telling words that give the game away. Words like “follows the formula” or “doesn’t break any boundaries” or even “well-established sound”. Yeah, if you’ve heard this band before you know exactly what you’re getting here. The long and short of it is this; if you’re are a fan of their previous works and want more of the same, by all means get this. If you feel anything less, avoid.
